Kirk Ferentz has been Iowa’s head coach since 1999, and he has 3 previous years of head coaching experience at Maine to his credit. As a part of that lengthy career, Ferentz is on the cusp of 200 overall wins as a head coach.

With 12 wins at Maine and 187 wins leading Iowa, Ferentz stands at 199 overall wins entering Week 2’s Cy-Hawk matchup. During his Tuesday press conference, the head coach was asked what it would mean to reach that 200-win plateau.

Ferentz downplayed the significance and pointed to the fact it ultimately means he’s been around good people and good players at a good place. He admitted he’s “been really fortunate” throughout his career.

Ferentz’s overall career record is 199-136. For his time with the Hawkeyes, Ferentz is 186-115 and is already the winningest coach in program history.

We’ll see if Iowa can help the head coach notch win No. 200 Saturday, and reclaiming the Cy-Hawk Trophy would make that landmark win even sweeter.
