Fueled by a dominant defense, Iowa has risen to No. 5 in the nation. Iowa is off to a 2-0 start and will host Kent State in Week 3.

Iowa defeated Indiana 34-6 in the season opener and knocked off rival Iowa 27-17 on the road in Week 2. Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz has always taken great pride in defense.

Ferentz explained to FOX Sports’ Joel Klatt why this season’s defensive unit is especially potent:

Iowa has only given up two touchdowns while scoring three touchdowns this season. Linebacker Seth Benson leads Iowa in tackles (15) while defensive back Matt Hankins is tops for Iowa with two interceptions.

Iowa-Kent State is slated for Sept. 18 (3:30 p.m. EST) and will be televised on the BTN.
