Kirk Ferentz opens up on whether or not Iowa has a true QB battle this fall
Kirk Ferentz is trying to put the best team possible on the field for Iowa in 2022. One position that is bound to draw a lot of attention during fall camp is at QB.
Last season, Spencer Petras for much of the year. He was up and down at times and missed time due to injury. Alex Padilla played in place of Petras at various times.
Recently, Ferentz made an appearance on the Rich Eisen Show to discuss a number of things. He was asked directly if Iowa has a QB battle going on in fall camp, but Ferentz downplayed that position battle.
“I think yes and no,” said Ferentz when asked if there is an ongoing battle. “I think that probably gets played a little more publicly or it’s a bigger deal publicly…We’ve got two guys on our team that we have won games with. And Spencer got injured last year, came out and Alex Padilla stepped in and did a great job and led us to a couple victories.
“…I think both Alex Padilla and Spencer Petras are better players than they were a year ago. That’s our expectation for all of our players, especially our good guys. And so, I think we’ve got a healthy, healthy situation and we’re going to let everyone compete in camp — every position — and we’ll see where it goes.”
