After two of Iowa’s top defenders missed Saturday’s game against Northwestern because of injury, head coach Kirk Ferentz provided an update to their statuses on Sunday evening.

Linebacker Josey Jewell and safety Brandon Snyder were both absent from the field last weekend, both recovering from injuries. Ferentz provided an update on both guys, saying each were essentially week-to-week.

“They are both week-to-week guys,” Ferentz said according to Marc Morehouse of the Cedar Rapids Gazette. “I think Josey has a realistic chance; we thought he might have a chance last week, but he didn’t quite make the bell at the end.

“Brandon is probably a week or two away, but he is making good progress. We’re optimistic we’ll get him back in the near future. Hopefully sooner rather than later.”

Jewell leads the B1G in tackles, recording 70 stops. He’s also made 9.5 tackles for loss and an interception on the season.

Snyder has missed most of the season because of an ACL injury suffered during spring practice. He was expected to miss all of the 2017 season, but the recovery was quicker than usual. His only playing time came against Illinois.

With games against Ohio State and Wisconsin still on the schedule, having both guys back will be important if the Hawkeyes want a chance to upset some of the top programs in the B1G.
