Kirk Ferentz wanted to give out an update on DB Cooper DeJean and TE Sam LaPorta at Sunday’s Music City Bowl press conference. DeJean left the Nebraska game with an injury, and LaPorta has not played since suffering a leg injury against Minnesota.

Ferentz stated that DeJean is expected to rejoin the team towards the end of the week. LaPorta is very close to returning, according to Ferentz.

“Yeah, they would not have played if we played yesterday or this weekend. But I would expect Cooper for sure to return here at the end of the week. I think Sam’s very close. He’s out on the field, moving around pretty good, but he would not have been game-ready this week, nor would have Cooper.”

Ferentz also highlighted how excited both players are to be back. The Iowa HC expects both players to play in the Music City Bowl on Dec. 31.

“But expect them both to be fully ready to go in the bowl game,” said Ferentz. “I know they’re excited. I don’t want to speak for our guys on our team, but I can tell just by the way they’re acting they’re excited to play another game.”

Iowa and Kentucky kicks off at noon ET on ABC.
