Kirk Ferentz and the Iowa defense were hoping for some good news after linebacker Jestin Jacobs returned to the starting lineup in Week 4 against Rutgers. Unfortunately, Jacobs’ return did not last long, and his outlook for the rest of the season is not good per Ferentz.

After the game, Ferentz addressed the injury. While Ferentz said he’ll have more details on Tuesday, he did admit the initial report “didn’t seem good” on the soft tissue situation.

“I don’t think it’s good,” Ferentz said per Kennington Lloyd Smith III with Hawk Central. “I’ll let you know Tuesday but it didn’t seem good, the initial report doesn’t sound good, so we’ll see.”

Along with Seth Benson and Jack Campbell, Jacobs was a piece of one of the deepest and most productive linebacker units in the country. Jacobs produced 53 tackles and an interception in 2021.

To start the season, Jacobs had 6 tackles and a TFL. Hopefully, he’s able to make a complete recovery, but determining when that recovery takes place is still to be determined.
