Iowa did its part on Friday afternoon to stay alive in the B1G West race. Everything else was out of the Hawkeyes’ hands. But when the battle for Paul Bunyan’s Axe came to an end, Iowa learned it would be heading to Indianapolis.

Friday, Iowa defeated Nebraska 28-21 to improve to 10-2 on the season and stay alive in the chase for the B1G West crown. What the Hawkeyes needed on Saturday was a Minnesota victory over Wisconsin.

The Gophers helped out their rivals by posting a 23-13 win over the Badgers. That will send the Hawkeyes to Lucas Oil Stadium to play Michigan for the B1G title.

After the result was announced, Kirk Ferentz released a statement on Iowa’s B1G Championship Game appearance.

“Our team has shown tremendous determination during this special season,” Ferentz said. “We’re proud to be West Division Champions and looking forward to taking the field in Indianapolis next Saturday night.”

Iowa and Michigan will meet at Lucas Oil Stadium on Saturday with kickoff set for 8 p.m. ET.
