Iowa’s win over Boston College in the Pinstripe Bowl was a big one for several reasons. It got the Hawkeyes to the eight-win mark for the fourth time in five years and ended a five-game bowl losing streak.

But most importantly, Iowa’s win over the Eagles was Kirk Ferent’z 143rd career win with the program, tying coaching legend Hayden Fry. The Hawkeyes won the game 27-20.

Fry went 143-89-6 in 20 seasons with the Hawkeyes and took the program to 14 bowl games. He was also the brains behind the famous pink paint job in the visiting locker rooms.

In 19 seasons with the program, Ferentz is 143-97 and Iowa has only missed the postseason four times under his direction.

Ferentz has had an incredible tenure in Iowa City and, with his next win, he’ll surpass Fry as the winningest coach in program history.
