Kirk Ferentz and wife donate $1 million to support research for children born prematurely

The Ferentz family has pledged a generous donation to support research that helps premature babies.

Marc Morehouse of the Cedar Rapids Gazette tweeted that Kirk Ferentz and his wife, Mary, have donated $1 million to help University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital researchers as they try to improve survival rates for children born prematurely.

Here is the official release regarding the generous donation.

The Ferentzes made the donation in memory of their granddaughter, Savvy Elizabeth, who was born at just 21 weeks back in 2014.

According to the release, the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital have significantly higher survival rates for babies born between 24 and 25 weeks, compared to other hospitals around the country.

The donation will set up the Savvy Ferentz Program in Neonatal Research.
