Kirk Herbstreit puts out a weekly list of his top performers from around the nation. The veteran analyst makes a list of most impressive coaches and most impressive players.

For the Week 7 coaches list, Herbstreit included an Iowa Hawkeyes’ coordinator, Phil Parker.

Parker, the Hawkeyes’ defensive coordinator, made Herbstreit’s list after his unit held the Wisconsin Badgers to just 6 points. The Hawkeye defense forced 2 turnovers and allowed the Badgers to convert on just 2/17 third downs.

The usually run-heavy Badgers were held to just over 100 yards on the ground and didn’t get into the end zone all day. Braelon Allen finished with just 87 yards on 18 attempts.

The stellar defensive performance led the Hawkeyes to a 15-6 win, even when their own offense was just as inept. The 2 turnovers made a huge difference in this game, and now the Hawkeyes are on their way to winning the B1G West.

The Hawkeyes have the No. 27 total defense in the nation, which is a big reason why the team is sitting at 3-1 in the conference and 6-1 overall. The next test for the Hawkeyes will be the Minnesota Golden Gophers.
