Luka Garza hits impressive career mark in first half action vs Michigan State
Iowa’s Luka Garza is on an incredible run, and he hit another impressive milestone in the first half of Tuesday’s game against Michigan State.
With a putback basket at the 12:06 mark, Garza recorded his 800th career rebound as a Hawkeye. It was his second rebound of the first half and he now has three total to go along with nine points at the under four timeout before halftime.
While that rebounding total is more than impressive, Garza will be a bit of a long shot to run down the school’s all-time rebounding mark. That number is 990 and belongs to Greg Brunner.
Along with his new rebounding milestone, Garza is still in the hunt for 2,000 career points. As things currently stand, he is just nine points shy of becoming the second Hawkeye to hit that mark. Garza is chasing Roy Marble’s Iowa scoring mark of 2,116.
So far, Tom Izzo’s Spartans have come out with a spark and played much better since getting blown out in back-to-back games after returning from a pause related to COVID-19. A big second half from Garza would be more than welcome for the Hawkeyes.
