Patrick Mahomes calls Caitlin Clark 'one of the best' college players ever amid push for all-time scoring record
Patrick Mahomes was asked about Iowa superstar Caitlin Clark during a pre-Super Bowl press conference this week.
Mahomes said he’s met Clark before and nothing but great things to say about her on-and-off the court. He also acknowledged Clark could break the all-time record for most points in a women’s college basketball career as early as Sunday.
“I think she’s close to breaking [the record], maybe on Super Bowl Sunday,” Mahomes said. “Just a tremendous player. Tremendous person every time I’ve met with her and talked. You can tell she loves the game. She loves playing at Iowa. One of the best college basketball players to ever play … Hopefully I never have to play her one-on-one because she’ll for sure be getting buckets on me.”
"She's one of the best college basketball players to ever play. [She'll] go to the WNBA and dominate there as well. Hopefully I never have to play her one-on-one because she'll for sure be getting buckets on me."

Clark, who averages 32.4 points per game, is 66 points shy of breaking the all-time record by former Washington star Kelsey Plum. Clark has 3,462 points to this point in her collegiate career.
Clark, a native Iowan, will be rooting for Mahomes and the Chiefs on Sunday in the Super Bowl. Clark said on the Manning Cast earlier this season that she grew up a Chiefs fan.
“I’ve been a Chiefs fan since I was a young girl,” Clark said. “My brother was a Chiefs fan. My dad was a Chiefs fan. I had cousins in Kansas City that were Chiefs fans.
“I’m not a bandwagon Chiefs fan, I was a Chiefs fan even when they weren’t very good.”
Clark also has a big game on Sunday as the Hawkeyes are set to face Nebraska on the road that day at 1 p.m. ET.
