In Week 1, Iowa punted its way to a win, calling on Tory Taylor 10 times in the season opener. Taylor was phenomenal, consistently pinning back the Jackrabbits back with 479 yards off his punts.

In the end, Iowa’s defense took over the rest, securing a pair of safeties to push the Hawkeyes to a 7-3 win. The game was especially interesting considering Iowa failed to register a touchdown while coming out on top.

Of course, the lack of offense was the main storyline, but it’s a method that has paid off for the Hawkeyes. According to one statistic, the Hawkeyes are 6-1 since the beginning of the 2020 season when punting 8 or more times in a game.

Needless to say, that record is far and away the best showing of any other FBS program in the country. No other team has more than 2 wins when punting that much, and the overall winning percentage of all FBS teams punting 8+ times is .209% since 2020.
