An Iowa product is getting some nice job security heading into his NBA rookie season.

The Detroit Pistons are signing legendary Iowa center Luka Garza to a converted two-year contract, according to reporter Shams Charania. Detroit had initially signed Garza to a two-way deal.

After a sensational career at Iowa, Garza was selected in the second round of the 2021 NBA Draft.

In 2021, Garza was the National College Player of the Year, Sporting News College Player of the Year, consensus first-team All-American, Pete Newell Big Man Award winner, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Award winner, Lute Olson Award winner,  Senior CLASS Award winner, B1G Player of the Year, and B1G Male Athlete of the Year.

During his career at Iowa, Garza averaged 18.2 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks. Garza’s No. 55 is retired by Iowa.
