Report: Iowa State investigating numerous assaults reported by Hawkeye band
For a few weeks, it seemed as if the situation between Iowa State fans and members of the Iowa band had started to cool down. According to a recent report, however, the situation is still very much at the forefront of the agenda for both universities.
Per The Gazette, Iowa State is currently investigating four assaults that were reported by the Iowa band during a September matchup between the Cyclones and Hawkeyes. The game took place in Ames.
After the game, it was reported that numerous members of the Iowa band were verbally and physically assaulted by Iowa State fans. The Iowa Press-Citizen wrote that band members alleged “one student was forcefully groped while another suffered broken ribs, according to several accounts.”
The Gazette is reporting that the Iowa State Police Department is looking into four different assaults that occurred in Ames. From The Gazette:
“[a]n Iowa State police crime log shows the department on Sept. 25 took two reports of assault at Jack Trice Stadium in Ames on Sept. 14; another assault report for the same date and location on Sept. 26; and then a fourth on Sept. 27.”
Details of what exactly is being investigated are unknown. Because it is part of an open investigation, there hasn’t been much information released.
