Sam LaPorta, former Iowa TE, hauls in first career NFL touchdown reception
Sam LaPorta is on the board!
The former Iowa Hawkeye is looking to continue the long tradition of Iowa tight ends succeeding in the NFL. He’s off to a strong start to his 2023 season already, hauling in his first career touchdown receptions for the Lions against the Atlanta Falcons Sunday.
LaPorta is currently Detroit’s leading receiver as we enter halftime. He has 6 receptions for 70 yards and the below touchdown. It’s pretty hard to imagine LaPorta being more open than this:

LaPorta did not put up record-breaking numbers at Iowa, but the Hawkeyes didn’t exactly have a Heisman candidate quarterback under center, either. He finished his senior season with 58 receptions for 687 yards and 1 touchdown.
LaPorta was taken 34th overall in the 2nd round of the 2023 NFL Draft.
The Lions currently lead the Falcons 13-3 with just minutes before the start of the 3rd quarter.
