Sam LaPorta, former Iowa TE, receives injury update ahead of MNF
Sam LaPorta is expected to play for the Detroit Lions Monday night against the Seattle Seahawks after suffering a sprained ankle last week against the Arizona Cardinals.
LaPorta, a former Iowa tight end, had a fantastic rookie season with the Lions, but has started slow in Year 2. He’s totaled 8 receptions for 94 yards and has yet to find the end zone this season.
We’ll see if that changes Monday night:
Lions HC Dan Campbell told reporters that TE Sam LaPorta, who sprained his ankle last week, is expected to play Monday night vs. the Seahawks.

LaPorta is the latest in a long list of former Iowa tight ends to see success in the NFL. Dallas Clark, George Kittle and Noah Fant are some of the other former Hawkeye tight ends to see success at the next level.
And LaPorta’s rookie season was by far the best of the bunch. LaPorta totaled 86 receptions for 889 yards and 10 touchdowns, no other name listed above found the end zone more than 5 times their rookie season.
All signs point towards the best still being still to come for LaPorta. We’ll see how he fares Monday night against a solid Seahawks defense that has led Seattle to a 3-0 record.
