Spencer Lee has been phenomenal throughout his career at Iowa. Entering this year’s NCAA Wrestling Championships, Lee was the No. 1 seeded wrestler at 125 pounds and in search of a 4th national title.

That search for another title came to a thudding end in Friday’s semifinals. Facing Purdue’s Matt Ramos, Lee found himself o the wrong end of a pin with Ramos advancing to the finals.

The win by Ramos snaps Lee’s 58-match winning streak. Here’s how it all went down:

“It’s unreal, it hasn’t really hit me, but I think manifesting it and speaking it into the air,” said Ramos after his win. “I said I was ready for Spencer and a lot of people said ‘What makes you think you can beat him?’ I said I work really hard and I trust what I believe in. Being able to speak it into existence, I’m not trying to be cocky or anything, but if I can’t get it out into the world, I don’t believe it will happen.”

We’ll see if Ramos can capitalize with a national title in the finals, but his upset of Lee is a stunner, to say the least.
