Stephen A. Smith tuned into the “Crossover at Kinnick” event Sunday afternoon, and he was among those blown away by the endeavor. The event dazzled as Hawkeye faithful poured into Kinnick Stadium to set a new record for attendance at a women’s college basketball game.

During ESPN’s Monday broadcast of “First Take,” Smith praised the Hawkeyes for the event and took a special time to shout out Caitlin Clark. Not only is Clark the best player in college basketball, she teamed up with Smith for a special event over Iowa’s homecoming.

“It’s incredibly impressive, I mean 55,600+ people showing up to watch a women’s college basketball game,” said Smith. “That’s just phenomenal, No. 1.

“No. 2, Caitlin Clark, the best player in college basketball as far as I’m concerned. She’s absolutely sensational. I want to thank her again for the event that I had with her. I think about 10,000 people showed up to that, it was bananas, and I want to thank her for that. They absolutely loved her, they showed me a lot of love, I appreciate it.”

With the exhibition event wrapped up, Iowa will face one more exhibition game before the start of the regular season.
