Tyler Goodson, former Iowa RB, locked in roster battle with Green Bay Packers
Tyler Goodson is in his first NFL preseason after completing his career at Iowa. He’s also fighting for a roster spot with the Green Bay Packers and impressed Friday night.
In a win over the New Orleans Saints, Goodson showed solid versatility with runs of 9, 9 and 15 yards and with a catch for 10 yards. He wound up finishing with 42 yards on 10 carries.
After the game, head coach Matt LaFleur complimented Goodson’s “burst” with the offense. But as for the battle for the third running back spot on the roster, LaFleur said that battle will ultimately come down to who can help contribute on special teams (Via Packers.com):
“A lot of it with our third running back is going to come down to how they do on special teams,” he said. “That is an area where the third back has to be able to contribute. That’s really where the battle lies with all these guys right now.”
During his career with the Hawkeyes, Goodson had over 2,500 rushing yards and 500 yards receiving with 19 total touchdowns. Now, Goodson will have to show he can also contribute in special teams to make the roster.
