University of Iowa president throws major shade at Illinois over Hawkeyes' Citrus Bowl appearance
No. 15 Iowa (10-3) is set to take on No. 22 Kentucky (9-3) in the Citrus Bowl for one of the first college football games of the new year. Hawkeye Nation and fans are loving the festivities leading up to the game versus Kentucky.
University of Iowa president Barbara Wilson was hyping up Iowa fans while also throwing some serious shade at Illinois.
Wilson was happy going on the trip to Orlando with the teams as she said she isn’t used to her football teams playing in bowl games. Before coming to the president of the University of Iowa this past July, Wilson was previously the executive vice president/vice president for academic affairs of the University of Illinois.
Illinois has only been to a bowl game once from 2015 to 2021 with their last bowl being the 2019 Redbox Bowl. Illinois would lose that game to California with a score 35-20.

That’s some serious shade the Iowa president is throwing at her former school. But sports are more fun with this type of rivalry.
The Citrus Bowl matchup between Iowa and Kentucky will be the first ever between the two schools.
