Amani Hooker had a special season in Iowa City. One that not even head coach Kirk Ferentz could’ve predicted.

By the time the 2018 campaign came to a close, Hooker was considered one of the top safeties in the B1G and in the country. He finished the season with 59 tackles, 3.5 for loss, four interceptions and seven pass break-ups.

Those totals helped land Hooker on a few All-American lists this postseason. Ferentz said he didn’t expect that type of success or production from the defensive back coming into the season.

“I would not have predicted that for any player in August, because there are so many things that can happen,” Ferentz said. “What a great reward for a fantastic season he had.”

Ferentz also complimented Hooker for the energy he brings to the defense and the strides he’s made throughout his career with the Hawkeyes.
