That didn’t go as planned.
Iowa showed up in Indianapolis hoping to leave Lucas Oil Stadium with a B1G title. Instead, it exited the building with a 42-3 loss to Michigan. Almost nothing went right for the Hawkeyes.
Kirk Ferentz’s team had little success moving the football in the B1G Championship Game, and even when it did, capitalizing was an issue. Iowa had 3 red zone trips and ended the game with just 3 points. There was a missed field goal from sure-footed kicker Caleb Shudak. Tory Taylor had a punt blocked.
If special teams is going wrong for the Hawkeyes, it’s probably not a good day.
Despite the disappointment in Indianapolis, Iowa still won 10 games during the 2021 season and is looking at landing in a pretty appealing bowl game at the end of the year. We’ll find out on Sunday.
After Iowa’s loss, Ferentz met with reporters to talk about the game. Here’s what he had to say:

Kirk Ferentz said that the decision here was because he had “scar tissue” from the Wisconsin game. Against Wisconsin, Iowa fumbled on a sack and then threw a pick.

Kirk Ferentz said that the QB switch was due to an injury to Spencer Petras— it’s something with his torso.
