Isaiah Davis delivered a crushing blow on Saturday.

The Maryland freshman took down Penn State kicker Joey Julius after the whistle on a kickoff. It resulted in an ejection and a viral video:

On Tuesday, Maryland coach DJ Durkin dealt Davis a crushing blow. He was suspended one game for his late hit on Julius.

That shouldn’t have come as much of a surprise considering Durkin’s comments after Saturday’s game. He said that if Davis wasn’t ejected, he would’ve been pulled from the game. Durkin reiterated that wasn’t how Maryland played.

It was the second consecutive week that a player delivered a late hit on the Penn State kicker. A week earlier, Julius was crushed by a Minnesota player, which caused the benches to clear.

Perhaps players will realize that getting ejected and suspended just to send a message to a kicker isn’t very smart.
