DeShawn Harris-Smith is a big-time 2013 hoops recruit, and that’s great news for the University of Maryland — because he’s going to be a Terrapin.

Harris-Smith, who’s ranked as the No. 39 player nationally and No. 6 player in the 2023 class, according to 247Sports, committed to the Terrapins over the likes of Indiana, Villanova, Penn State, and Xavier.

Hailing from Paul V Catholic High School, Harris-Smith is an athletic, 6-foot-4 wing player who attacks the rim with power and speed. He’s not afraid to finish at the rim with a yam, but he also has a smooth stroke, a pretty release, and a nice shot from the outside.

Maryland should be getting itself a player with immense potential.

The opportunity to play right away was a big reason Harris-Smith picked Maryland, according to his interview with 247Sports. He also seems to believe in head basketball coach Kevin Willard and believes he can help him get to the NBA.
