ESPN’s FPI is predicting the 2022 college football season, and Maryland is trending up following a 3-0 start to the season.

After blowout wins over Buffalo and Charlotte, the competition stepped up with a visit from SMU in Week 3. The Terrapins stepped up to the task with a 34-27 to move to 3-0.

Now, Maryland enters conference play with a number of tough games still to come on the B1G slate. But thanks to that hot start, the Terps are trending as a near-lock to make a bowl game for a second straight year.

According to the Football Power Index, Maryland is given a 94.7% chance of reaching 6 wins and the postseason. As things currently stand, Maryland’s projected record of finish is 7.4-4.6, so the program will need to be careful in every game the rest of the way.

Conference play begins this week with a road trip to Ann Arbor to face No. 4 Michigan and then a visit from Michigan State in Week 5. On the crossover schedule, the Terps must also face Purdue, Northwestern and Wisconsin.

We’ll see if Maryland can get back to the postseason, but so far, Michael Locksley’s squad is firing on all cylinders.
