Maryland’s passing attack just received a major boost.

Because Tua Tagovailoa was drafted by the Miami Dolphins last month, there was some speculation that Taulia Tagovailoa would follow him to Florida. However, because of the family’s close ties to head coach Mike Locksley, Maryland was one of the favorites to land the younger Tagovailoa.

“This decision was not easy & has been prayed on non stop. Thank you to my Pastors & my family for always interceding on my behalf,” Tagovailoa said. “Today, I am blessed to share that I will be continuing my academic & athletic journey at the University of Maryland. I’m grateful to Coach Locksley & the staff for giving me this opportunity. I can’t wait to get to College Park. God bless & Go Terps!”

As a high school prospect, Tagovailoa was a four-star quarterback, per 247Sports. He gives Maryland extreme talent at a position that struggled last season.

Taulia Tagovailoa’s commitment continues to show how strong of a recruiter Locksley is, even in the transfer portal. Though the Terrapins finished just 3-9 last season, he’s done excellent work landing big-time recruits.

Taulia Tagovailoa appeared in five games at Alabama last season. He has three years of eligibility remaining but would need a waiver to be eligible in 2020.
