Mike Locksley continues to do well on the recruiting trail and the transfer market early in his tenure at Maryland.
On Friday, Maryland told The State that former Clemson linebacker Shaq Smith has enrolled at the university and will be a graduate transfer for the Terrapins on the football field. He will be immediately eligible for the 2019 season.
Smith will have two seasons of eligibility remaining.
Smith is a native of Baltimore, so his transfer from Clemson to Maryland is a bit of a homecoming. Out of high school, he was a four-star prospect and was ranked as the 81st-best player in the 2016 recruiting class. He was the No. 3 linebacker of the cycle.
Last season, Smith made 16 tackles for Clemson during a national championship run. The Tigers finished the 2018 campaign with a perfect 15-0 record.
