Former Maryland defensive back Erwin Byrd is going to be continuing his college football career a little closer to his hometown.

On Monday, Byrd announced on Twitter that he will be transferring to Kennesaw State, which competes at the FCS level. The former Terrapins defensive back is a native of Powder Springs, Georgia.

Byrd entered his name into the NCAA transfer portal after spending two years with Maryland. He was a member of the Terrapins’ 2019 recruiting class.

Byrd played in four career games while at Maryland. He made one appearance during the 2019 season, playing in the season finale against Michigan State. Last fall, he played in three games and made two starts.

Byrd was credited 6 total tackles in those three games during the 2020 campaign. He was also credited with half a tackle for loss.

Redshirting his first year in 2019 and with the NCAA’s additional year of eligibility for the 2020 season, Byrd will have all four season of eligibility remaining at Kennesaw State.
