After one season at Maryland, twins Makhi and Makhel Mitchell decided to leave the program. Now, they’ve found a new home to continue their college basketball and academic careers.

Monday, Jeff Goodman of Stadium reported that the Mitchell brothers will be transferring to Rhode Island. Both had entered the NCAA transfer portal early in the year, entering the portal in late December. Both came off the bench for the Terps throughout the early portion of the schedule.

Makhi averaged 3.0 points and 3.3 rebounds per contest, while Makhel averaged 1.0 point per contest. Combined, the two averaged around 16 minutes per game in their short time with the Terps.

Rhode Island finished the 2019-20 season with a 21-9 record and was 13-5 in Atlantic 10 play, finishing third in the conference’s regular season standings. The A-10 Tournament was then canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
