A former Maryland wide receiver is heading to the ACC.
On Saturday, Darryl Jones announced on Twitter that he has committed to North Carolina State to continue his college career. Jones hit the transfer portal a week ago, just days after the Terrapins posted a blowout victory over Virginia Tech in the Pinstripe Bowl.
Jones had a big day in the Pinstripe Bowl, catching 4 passes for 111 yards and 2 touchdowns. That included a 70-yard touchdown pass from Taulia Tagovailoa midway through the second quarter.
For the season, Jones hauled in 23 receptions for 319 yards. His 2 touchdown grabs in the Pinstripe Bowl were his only 2 of the 2021 season. Over the past 4 seasons, Jones has totaled 705 yards on 49 catches.
Maryland has a lot of talent at the receiver position with Rakim Jarrett and Dontay Demus Jr. both returning for the 2022 season. While Jones has flashed plenty of potential, he was never really one of the top two options in the passing attack for the Terrapins.
The Terps closed out the 2021 season with a 7-6 record in Mike Locksley’s first season as head coach. It was his first winning record as the leader of a program.
