Sometimes losing your job as a head football coach isn’t all terrible. Just take Charlie Weis’ lucrative exit from Notre Dame as an example.

And if you want further proof, you can look to former Maryland head coach Randy Edsall.

Edsall, who was fired in 2015, still earned more money in 2016 than any other state employee. According to a salary database release that was obtained by the Baltimore Sun, Edsall raked in $2.673 million last year, edging out Maryland basketball coach Mark Turgeon and current football coach D.J. Durkin.

Losing your job obviously isn’t an ideal circumstance, but receiving that type of money on the way out probably makes it a little easier to swallow.

Plus, Edsall landed back on his feet, returning to UConn to take the reins of that program for the second time in his career.
