A former Illinois linebacker is transferring to another B1G program.

Friday morning, Tre Watson announced that he is headed to Maryland as a graduate transfer and will finish out his college football career as a Terrapin. He made the announcement in a video that he made public through Twitter.

Watson was the third-leading tackler for the Illini this season, tallying 65 stops in nine games. He also had 4.5 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks and an interception. He was considered to be one of the top defenders for Illinois in 2017.

In 2016, Watson recorded a career-best 102 tackles. He left Illinois with 188 total stops in three seasons.

As a graduate transfer, Watson will be eligible to play immediately. He joins a Maryland team that currently owns the 18th best recruiting class nationally and ranks fourth in the B1G.

The Terrapins are coming a 4-8 season.
