Nick Cross might be replicating a sponge during his first rookie minicamp this year. The former Maryland defensive back talked about “soaking everything in,” when he’s on the field with Colts during camp.

Cross was selected by Indianapolis in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft. The former Terrapin had an outstanding career while in College Park and is now hoping to make a quick impact in the NFL.

Speaking with Colts.com, Cross talked about his plans for his first rookie minicamp with the organization.

“Just soak everything in,” Cross said. “Got great coaches, coach (Ron) Milus, coach (Mike) Mitchell, coach Gus Bradley, they’re great coaches, have a lot of experience so I’m just trying to soak everything in. Learn everything from them and go from there.

“Get better every single rep, get better every single play. Learn the defense, make sure I can go out there and communicate the defense and have confidence and go out there and play fast.”

Cross ended his career at Maryland by totaling 66 tackles in 2021, also intercepting 3 passes and forcing 2 fumbles. He was a 3-time All-B1G Honorable Mention during his time with the program.

“It feels good to be out there, haven’t played football since December, so just being able to go out there, put cleats in the ground, put a helmet on, a new helmet,” Cross said. “Just go out there and play. It feels good and I’m happy I’m out here.”
