Game-changing interception for Maryland negated by questionable penalty
Maryland is up 21-13 over Michigan State in Baltimore on Saturday.
The Terrapins could have had more points on the board, but a personal foul call negated a pick-six from Maryland in the first half. DB Dante Trader Jr. caught a pass that was deflected by Spartan WR Jayden Reed, taking it down the sideline for an apparent TD.
Immediately prior to the deflection and catch, Reed was hit hard by Maryland DB Corey Coley. Coley was called for the personal foul, wiping out the pick-six points.
The call was not officially reviewed, although it was widely analyzed during the broadcast. Many fans thought the foul was a bad call, and the FOX broadcasters seemingly agreed, stating that the series and penalty should have been reviewed.
It is possible that a potential review could have ruled Trader out-of-bounds before the end zone. However, the penalty wiped away the interception altogether.
