Maryland closed out spring practice in the final weekend of April, hosting the annual spring game on Saturday afternoon.

It was a hot start for the Red offense on Saturday, scoring 14 points early in the game. Running back Roman Hemby broke a 44-yard touchdown run to open the scoring for the afternoon on an impressive sweep play.

After the first two touchdowns, both defenses stepped up in a big way. Neither side reached the end zone the rest of the afternoon.

New Maryland wide receiver Jacob Copeland was a bright spot throughout the game, getting past defenders and finding gaps in the defense to get open for Taulia Tagovailoa. He’s going to be a valuable asset in the passing attack in 2022.

The defense’s resilience was also a talking point. Despite some early struggles, both sides bowed up and refused to allow any easy points, resulting in a 14-3 final score.
