A decision on the future of Maryland head football coach D.J. Durkin could coming soon, according to one university booster.

In an interview with InsideMDSports, attorney and booster Rick Jaklitsch said that the investigation into Maryland’s “toxic culture” could conclude as early as Sunday. One week ago, the findings of the probe into the immediate care of Jordan McNair were released. Those findings determined that the university was at fault for McNair’s death.

So far, Jaklitsch is the only one to provide any real timetable on the investigation.

“My understanding is that report from the latest commission… will be finished on the last day of this month — of September,” said Jaklitsch. “I’m hoping that, with the bye week, that will allow the regents to get together and realize that there is no toxic culture. Realize that the whole reason you suspended somebody for an indefinite period of time was because you were investigating this toxic culture and you find out there isn’t so you have to reinstate (Durkin) immediately.

“That’s probably pie-in-the-sky, but I’m hoping phone calls can be put together after they get their report and right a wrong that was done to our coach.”

Durkin has been on administrative leave since the investigations began. Offensive coordinator Matt Canada has taken over the coaching responsibilities on an interim basis.

The alleged toxic culture was first reported by ESPN following the death of McNair. Players and former staffers alleged Durkin and other coaches of bullying players.

Maryland is on a bye week this Saturday and will be in Ann Arbor next Saturday to take on Michigan.
