Jordan McNair's teammates reflect on scoring 79 points in season opener
This is one incredibly noteworthy stat from Maryland’s season-opening domination of Howard.
The Terrapins hit the ground running and never looked back in Week 1. Looking to make a statement in head coach Mike Locksley’s 2019 debut, Maryland racked up 56 points in the first half.
Defensively, the Terrapins locked down Howard for the shutout. They allowed just 68 yards of offense to the Bison, but it was the final point total by Maryland that is noteworthy.

The Terrapins finished with exactly 79 points, one of the highest outputs in the program’s history. But what makes that especially significant is that 79 is the jersey number of ex-Maryland offensive lineman Jordan McNair.
McNair passed away last summer after collapsing during a team workout. His death rocked the program and led to a coaching change with the Terrapins, and McNair’s former teammates used Saturday’s output to honor his memory.
