It was a grind in the first half, but Maryland pulled out a 71-64 win over George Washington on Thursday night to move to 2-0 on the season.

The Terrapins were led by an 18-point, 15-board game from center Qudus Wahab and a 15-point performance from guard Fatts Russell. Eight of the 9 Terps who saw the floor scored a bucket, but it was the status of one player who wasn’t part of the win that was the highlight of coach Mark Turgeon’s postgame press conference.

James Graham III, a redshirt freshman wing from Milwaukee, was not with the team for the game. The Washington Post’s Emily Giambalvo reported before the game that his absence was due to a violation of team rules.

Turgeon was asked about Graham after the game, specifically how much longer he’d be off the floor. Giambalvo shared his response:

Graham played just 5 minutes in the team’s opener on Tuesday against Quinnipiac. The 6-foot-8 wing was originally a Class of 2021 recruit, but opted to graduate from high school early and enroll last winter. He played in 8 games during the 2020-21 season, averaging 1.3 points and 1.3 rebounds.

A 4-star recruit, Graham was the 127th-ranked player in his class by the 247Sports Composite.

His next chance to take the court will be Saturday, Nov. 13, when Maryland hosts Vermont (1-0) at 2 p.m. ET.
