Maryland picked up a pair of commitments for the 2023 recruiting class on Saturday. This time, the Terrapins added a pair of defensive teammates.

The players are defensive back Tayvon Nelson and Edge prospect Dillan Fontus out of Canarsie High School in Brooklyn, New York.

Nelson – a 6-foot-1 cornerback – was the first to reveal his commitment. He revealed his pledge to the Terps over West Virginia, Arizona, Arizona State, Penn State and Purdue, among others.

According to the 247 Sports Composite Rankings, Nelson is a 3-star prospect and the No. 115 CB nationally for the class of 2023. He’s also the 8th-best player out of New York.

Dillan Fontus was quick to follow up Nelson’s move with his own commitment. Fontus was also considering offers from Indiana, Nebraska and Kansas, among others.

The 247 Sports Composite Rankings has the 6-foot-5 Edge prospect as a 3-star recruit and the No. 80 Edge prospect in the country. Fontus is also the No. 2 player out of New York for the cycle.

Maryland is now up to 18 pledges for the class of 2023.
