Maryland received some welcome news on Monday afternoon. Maryland DT Ami Finau is staying for one more season.

Finau announced that he is staying for the 2022 season on his Twitter account Monday afternoon. The DT earned All-B1G Honorable Mention in the 2021 season.

This season, for the Terrapins, Finau recorded 40 tackles, 27 of which were solo, 5 tackles for loss, 1 sack and a forced fumble.

Maryland is coming off its best season under head coach Mike Locksley. The Terrapins went 7-6 and 3-6 in B1G play, capping the season with a bowl win in New York, defeating Virginia Tech 54-10 in the New Era Pinstripe Bowl in Yankee Stadium.

The Terrapins hopes to build off this season, have the bowl win springboard into the off-season, and hopefully become even more competitive in the B1G and B1G East race.

Maryland still finished 5th in the B1G East behind Michigan, Ohio State Michigan State and Penn State. If the Terrapins want to take the next step in the B1G they will have to start winning some of these game and being at least competitive against the big boys.

Maryland opens this season against Buffalo on Saturday, Sept. 3, 2022.
