Maryland is now 2-0 to begin the 2022 football season. After taking down Buffalo 31-10 in College Park, it traveled to Charlotte and cruised to a 56-21 victory.

On Monday, the program announced its players of the week after the blowout win over the 49ers. Quarterback Taulia Tagovalioa and wide receiver Jacob Copeland received nods on offense, while defensive back Dante Trader Jr. represented the defense. Rex Fleming and Chad Ryland received special teams honors.

Tagovailoa was almost perfect against the 49ers, going 27-of-31 for 391 yards and 4 touchdowns — all in the 1st half — with just 1 interception. He also ran for a touchdown in the 3rd quarter. Two of Tagovailoa’s touchdown passes were to Copeland, who racked up 110 yards on 4 catches.

Trader led a strong effort for the Terrapins’ defense, ending the day with 5 tackles and 1 quarterback hurry. Fleming contributed 4 tackles of his own, while Ryland made all 8 of his extra points.

Maryland looks to improve to 3-0 as it returns home to face SMU. Kickoff on Saturday is at 7:30 p.m. on FS1.
