VanDarius Cowan announced his transfer commitment to Maryland in December. Now, he’s officially a Terrapin.

Maryland announced Cowan as a signee on Thursday. He arrives in College Park as a graduate transfer after getting his degree from West Virginia.

Cowan played 3 seasons at WVU (2019-21), recording 38 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, and 4 sacks during his time as a Mountaineer. This past season, Cowan played in 10 games and started 4, posting 15 tackles (11 solo), including a tackle for loss.

Cowan has some prior familiarity with Maryland head coach Mike Locksley. A former 5-star recruit on the Scout.com service (which later merged with 247Sports), Cowan signed with Alabama out of Palm Beach Gardens (Florida) High School in the class of 2017. Locksley was on the Alabama staff from 2016-18. Cowan played in 7 games his lone season at Alabama before transferring to West Virginia and sitting out the 2018 season.
