It’s a busy time in the college basketball transfer portal as players seek new opportunities and coaches seek to boost their roster, especially where there have been coaching changes. Maryland is one of those programs that has been through a coaching change. In late March, Kevin Willard was introduced as the new head coach of the Terrapins, succeeding Mark Turgeon after his in-season parting.
Willard appears to be looking to the transfer portal to boost the 2022-23 roster. This weekend, college basketball insider Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports reported that Maryland is showing interest in Pitt transfer Femi Odukale and Charlotte transfer Jahmir Young.
Pitt transfer Femi Odukale tells me that he’s receiving interest from the following programs:
Washington State
Cal
Maryland
Seton Hall
Wake Forest
Ohio
Rhode Island
Vanderbilt

Charlotte transfer Jahmir Young is focused on the NBA Draft process, but is receiving interest from the following programs:
Cincinnati
Wake Forest
Kansas
Maryland
UConn
Kansas State

Odukale has been with Pitt for 2 seasons. He stepped into a starting role in 2021-22, making 28 starts over 31 games, averaging 3.5 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 10.8 points on 39.1% shooting over 32.4 minutes.
Young played in 31 games, all starts, for Charlotte this season, averaging 5.9 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 19.6 points on 46.8% shooting over 35.8 minutes per game. He was first-team All-Conference USA as the only player in the conference to score in double-figures and play in every game for his team this season. Young had 5 double-doubles in 2021-22, his third season.
