Maryland center Chol Marial is entering the transfer portal, he announced on Wednesday night.

Here’s Marial’s statement:

Marial has tremendous size and length, but he wasn’t able to translate that into playing time with Maryland. He played two seasons for Mark Turgeon, appearing in 30 total games. He averaged 5.9 minutes and 1.6 points per contest.

He’s listed at 7-foot-2, and has a 7-foot-8 wingspan according to his Maryland bio. His bio also says that he is cousins with former first round draft pick Thon Maker.

He committed to Maryland in the class of 2019. According to 247Sports composite rankings, Marial was a 3-star prospect and the No. 180 overall player in that class.

Activity in college basketball’s transfer portal is currently at an all-time high. Hundreds of players from across the country are expected to transfer in the coming days and weeks, so Maryland should have options if they look for a replacement in the portal.
