Maryland senior defensive lineman Austin Fontaine has decided to leave the program and enter the NCAA transfer portal.

Fontaine announced his decision to leave the Maryland football program on Thursday morning, waiving his final season with the Terps and entering the portal as a grad transfer.

As the regular season nears its end with bowl games at the forefront, more student-athletes are taking their talents to other schools, Fontaine just happens to be one of the many.

Fontaine happens to be the ninth player to enter the portal from Maryland within a span of a week (tight end C.J. Dippre, linebacker Ahmad McCullough, offensive lineman Ja’Khi Green, linebackers Kameron Blount and Terrance Butler Jr., defensive back Jaylon Venerable, defensive lineman Zion Shockley and tight end Weston Wolff).

Fontaine has been a part of the Terps program since 2018, securing a career total of 12 tackles. He came into Maryland as a consensus 4-star recruit, while also being a 2017 Under Armour All American his senior year of high school.

We will stay up to date on what happens next for Fontaine.
