Maryland fans are celebrating in College Park on Thursday night. The Terrapins took down No. 3 Purdue 68-54, giving Kevin Willard a signature win.

For the Terps, it’s the first win over a top-5 team since Iowa in 2016, snapping a long losing skid against top-5 opponents. Maryland fans stormed the court in celebration of beating Purdue by double digits.

Purdue led 28-25 at the half. The Boilermakers actually extended that lead to 8 points in the second half, holding a 37-29 advantage at the 16:19 mark. From there, however, Maryland started to rally. Purdue’s last lead was 40-39 with 13:23 to go. The Terrapins’ largest lead was 61-43 with 6:10 to go.

Maryland’s Jahmir Young led all scorers with 20 points. Braden Smith was Purdue’s top scorer, logging 18 points in the loss.

The Terrapins out-rebounded Purdue 35-23 and outscored the Boilermakers in the pain 38-30.
