Indiana’s offense played 16 straight quarters of nearly flawless football to start the season. Quarter No. 17 has been rough, to say the least.

That’s thanks to Maryland’s defense, which forced Indiana’s first and second turnovers of the season in the first quarter of their Week 5 matchup.

Jalen Huskey forced Indiana turnover No. 1, picking off Kurtis Rourke’s deep attempt. He returned it for a modest gain but the Terrapins were unable to take advantage on the scoreboard.

Unfortunately for Maryland, failing to take advantage after a turnover was an early theme. Rourke threw another interception the following drive, this time to Glendon Miller. The Terps went 3 and out the ensuing drive.

Life comes at you fast, Indiana.

The Terps defense has been solid thus far this season. The Terps have now forced 12 turnovers on the year, which currently leads all of college football (alongside Oklahoma). Their turnover margin heading into this game sat at +7 (now +9, obviously), which ranked 4th in college football. In other words, the Terrapins are pretty good at forcing the opposing offense into tough situations.

This game is still tied at 0 as we near the end of the first quarter. Let’s see if Maryland’s offense can find the end zone to help out its defensive effort to this point.
