Maryland guard hops into NCAA transfer portal
Maryland guard Serrel Smith will be looking to continue his college basketball career elsewhere.
Smith entered his name in the NCAA transfer portal this week. He appeared in 61 games in two seasons with the Terrapins and will have two years of eligibility remaining at his next destination.
“I want to thank Maryland and Coach [Mark] Turgeon for these past two years – they have been nothing but amazing,” Smith said in a post on Twitter. “My time at Maryland was filled with memories and relationships that I will always cherish! After careful consideration, I have decided to enter my name in the NCAA transfer portal and explore my options.”

During his two seasons at Maryland, Smith averaged 2.6 points per game and played around 10 minutes per contest.
With Smith’s departure, the Terrapins have now lost three players to transfer. Joshua Tomaic and Ricky Lindo have also decided to continue their careers elsewhere. Tomaic is headed to San Diego State while Lindo will be going to George Washington.
Maryland finished the 2019-20 season by winning its first regular-season conference title since joining the B1G.
