Maryland has added another piece to its roster via the transfer portal.

The Terrapins received a commitment from former Utah guard Ian Martinez on Tuesday, making his announcement on Twitter. He’s the third player to enter the transfer portal and commit to Maryland since the end of the 2020-21 college basketball season.

So far this offseason, Maryland has landed Martinez, as well as former Georgetown center Qudus Wahab and ex-Rhode Island guard Fatts Russell from the portal. Mark Turgeon’s team is still awaiting word on Aaron Wiggins and Eric Ayala, as both are testing the NBA Draft waters.

Last season, Martinez averaged 5.2 points, 1.9 rebounds and 0.8 assists per game as a freshman at Maryland. He played in 25 games with the Utes and dropped in a season-high 18 points in a game against USC.

Martinez also shot 49.5% from the floor and 32.4% from the 3-point line.

Maryland finished the 2020-21 season with a 17-14 record which included a 9-11 mark in B1G play. The Terrapins won their first round game of the B1G Tournament against Michigan State before being defeated the following day by Michigan.

The Terrapins squeaked into the NCAA Tournament as a No. 10 seed. They defeated UConn in the opening round before falling to Alabama in the Round of 32.
